Beginning April 19, 2021 we will now offer the newly approved and updated California Responsible Beverage Server Training that meets the AB 1221 requirements.

AB 1221 RBS training compliance becomes mandatory in July 1, 2022 for all servers of alcoholic beverages (On-Premise), this course meets that requirement.

Our online seller/server training course is designed to promote the legal and responsible sale and service of alcoholic beverages in California.

RBS training is for anyone serving drinks in a bar or restaurant. This training is mandatory (starting in July 2022 for bartenders, waiters, managers and licensees.

Our online course focuses on the skills and techniques used to recognize the signs of intoxication and how to intervene to keep your patrons and establishment safe. The training also covers underage drinking, ID checking, and much more.

Course Features

Our online training course is a 1.5 hour interactive course with full audio narration and engaging real-world scenarios for the best user experience and information retention. Our training course works on all computer devices including: smart phones, tablets, laptops, and PCs. If needed, you can conveniently switch back and forth between your phone (or tablet) and your computer, while taking the course, and you will always be returned to your most recent progress. Once you create an account you can log in from any computer or mobile device and train anytime, anywhere.

You have 6 months from enrollment to complete this course. You can log in and out of your training account and your place in the course will be saved.

At the conclusion of the course and the 30 multiple choice question practice exam, you will be able to print your exam instructions.

Certificate of Completion

At the conclusion of the training course, you will be giving a pre-test and then instructions on how to take the final exam with the state. 

You will complete the exam in your state Alcohol Server account at RBS Training Program state website.  They will issue you your certification. Currently, the student will need to print out or keep a copy of the "Server Certificate Details" which are located on the Dashboard of their state alcohol server account as proof of certification.

Employers will be able to check and confirm certification via the Licensee Login on the RBS Portal, which will be available later this year.  If you have questions regarding the exam or certification, you will need to contact the state directly at rbstp@abc.ca.gov

Once you pass the exam from the state, the certificate they issue will be be good for 3 years.  You will need to take the training and pass the exam every 3 years to keep your certification. 

RBS Training Requirements

Beginning July 1, 2022 the state law AB 1221 will make RBS training mandatory at the state level. This course meets these requirements.

Prior to taking this course, You Must Register as an Alcohol Server with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. You can Click Here to Register.

After you register and complete your application, you will be given an RBS Server ID Number. When asked, you will need to enter this number at the beginning of the course to continue.

After you have concluded the training portion of the course with RBSpermit.com we will upload your course completion data to the state the day after completion.  The state will then contact you regarding your exam.  You will then need to pass an online ABC administered RBS exam within 60 calendar days from the first date of employment.
